Karen Nelson, age 56, of Frazee, MN, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer.  She was home under Hospice care surrounded by her family. 

  Public walk-through visitation following COVID-19 rules will be Monday, January 4, 2020 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee.

A private family mass will be Tuesday with a recording of the Mass becoming available on the Furey Funeral Home website.

Graveside service will be Tuesday January 5, at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery and is open to the public.

  Karen Jean Nelson was born May 29, 1964, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Newman) Fournier. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN. Karen grew up and attended school in Oklee, graduating with the class of 1982. She continued her education attending the University of Minnesota – Crookston and Bemidji State.

  On November 27, 1982, Karen was united in marriage to Dennis Nelson at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and to this union two children were born. They made their home in Warroad, MN where Karen worked at Marvin Windows Corp. as a training specialist. The family moved to Frazee in 1992 where Karen worked at Daggett Truck Line as their human resource and payroll administrator for 27 years.

She was active with Homemakers Club and was a former Frazee First Responder.  Karen enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Christmas was her absolute favorite time of year, she loved to give.  Karen also loved being with family and especially loved her grandchildren. Karen was also a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She served as a Eucharistic minister, on the parish council, the financial council, as well as the church bookkeeper. 

  Karen is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dennis Nelson; children: Joshua (Heidi) Nelson; Tabitha (Brett) Syverson; grandchildren: Osmund, Stanton, Ellison Syverson; and soon to be baby Nelson; siblings: Kathie (Terry) Roy; Jim (Marie) Fournier; Nancy (Randy) Magnell; Mark (Ali) Fournier; father-in-law, Wallace Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Dorothy Fournier, and her mother-in-law, Doris Nelson.
