Dollar General is eyeing property along West Maple Avenue near the business corridor.

The Frazee Economic Authority approved spending almost $60,000 to purchase two buildings on Main Avenue with the intent of knocking them down. The purchase took place Oct. 25, according to Frazee Mayor Hank Ludtke and included the building that houses the laundromat and the apartment complex next door with the Furey moniker on the front

Jeffrey Moe, 4, was playing in the yard in September when he ran up next to the riding lawn mower his mother Heidi Moe was operating. He tripped and his right foot was sent under the blades. After being tended to by local rescue agencies he was finally airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis and underwent surgeries to repair his foot. Jeffrey returned home October 24, about four weeks after the accident. He will likely have more surgeries. He lost about 70 percent of his foot in the accident.

Receiving their 50-year VFW pins during the 50th anniversary celebration Friday night were Gordon Sanders, Harold Sanders, Waldo Krogman, Charlie Rew, Albert “Ike” Fischer, Sam Tester from Minnesota State, Commander Orlin Jackson of Grand Rapids.

Frazee native Gyle “Doc” Anderson, Detroit Lakes, has released his first kids’ video book in a series that features Frazee. Just released was “Wrecky the Wrecker and the Great Snow Storm.” It’s a children’s illustrated story that features the former wrecker service at Anderson Chevrolet. Anderson plans to add 12 more titles to the “Wrecky the Wrecker” series. 

This year, the Frazee School is building a full-sized ice skating rink near the new elementary school at the northwest edge of the school’s is property. It is located near a fire hydrant and will have a poly liner to help retain the water. The city will install street lights over the rink.

Friday night, prior to Halloween, persons unknown but obviously teenagers, took it upon themselves to “re-decorate” the Frazee village water tower. The cost to the village to hire someone to climb and repaint the outside portion of the tank now defaced could run as $800 and this is naturally Frazee taxpayers money. Therefore the Village Council is offering a $50.00 reward for information leading to the apprehension of those responsible for this costly vandalism. 

An extremely light turnout of only 72 voters turned out for the annual Frazee village election held Tuesday. Robert L. Matthews was elected to a fourth term as Mayor with 63 votes. There were four other write-in candidates each receiving one vote.

Two new village employees were hired Friday night by the Frazee village council under the Emergency Employment Act of 1971. The newly created jobs are an assistant liquor store manager and a night patrolman.  The assistant liquor store manager is Claude Stevens and the village’s new night patrolman is Warren Rethwisch.
