Notes from the Chief

The calves have been weaned and the cows are on a new pasture. We pulled the weaning tags after a week and weighed all the calves. Our stees averaged 672 pounds and the heifers averaged 602. They are in their special pen now and we will start a backgrounding ration very soon. We usually sell the calves after the first of the year, but may hold on to them this year and raise them to fat cattle.  

When we sell the feeder calves, they go to a feedlot to get fattened, but we may try that ourselves. The calf crop would then be ready for market in September or October and they would weigh around 1,400-1,500 pounds.  

The cows were also preggo checked and we determined that eight needed to have their last meals on the farm. They should be hamburgers on your plates very soon. The cows we sold had a very productive life on the farm, but their time is up.  There was even a pregnant cow or two sold as the wise old veterinarian said, “It is not illegal to sell a pregnant cow.” Pregnant cows are what keeps the farm moving from year to year, but if they aren’t in proper body condition, or weaned a small calf, it is time to move on.  

We raise our own replacement heifers and have 10 of those due to calve in the spring. All part of the circle of life on the farm.

Friday, Nov. 12

12:25 p.m. Assist with a funeral escort.

3:32 p.m. Report of a young child walking on E Juniper Ave. Child was looking for the family dog.

4:12 p.m. Complaint of a side by side driving up the sledding hill and tearing up the grass.

11:07 p.m. 911 hang-up.  Female was upset about personal things in her life.

Saturday, Nov. 13

6:53 p.m. Driving complaint in Red Willow.

Sunday, Nov. 14

6:53 p.m. Complaint of unregistered vehicles parked on street. Owner given warning to move vehicles.

8:37 p.m.  Call from Otter Tail County Sheriff that a lost or stolen cell phone was in Frazee. Unable to locate the phone.

Monday, Nov. 15

11:59 a.m. Domestic disturbance with husband and wife not getting along.

1:14 p.m. Complaint of a teenage boy asking for inappropriate photos from a teenage girl. Officer talked with all involved and parents also.  

Tuesday, Nov. 16

11:22 a.m. Assist DNR officer with talking to resident about possession of deer.

Wednesday, Nov. 17

10:39 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Thursday, Nov. 18

8:37 p.m. Driving complaint about a high school male after school.

Friday, Nov. 19

9:15 p.m. Driving complaint on US Hwy 10 with the vehicle coming into Frazee.  No signs of impairment.

Saturday, Nov. 20

8:19 p.m. Assist with a welfare check on a female in town.

Sunday, Nov. 21

3:26 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Monday, Nov. 22

3 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Tuesday, Nov. 23

1:10 p.m. Assist with Haz-Mat call in town. Construction company hit a gas line.

4:08 p.m. Report of a court order violation. Rij Koehnen, 28, Osage arrested for violation of a harassment restraining order.

Wednesday, Nov. 24

3:26 p.m. Report of a school bus stop arm violation on E Maple.  

5:16 p.m. Assist with a medical.

Thursday, Nov. 25

12:46 p.m. Assist with a suspicious activity call that happened in DL.  Vehicle involved is registered to a person from Frazee.  Officer found out that the vehicle had recently been sold to someone in DL.

6:10 p.m. Assist with a medical.

10:19 p.m. Report of someone going to check on a friend and hearing the sound of a gun being cocked behind the door.  Officer and deputy went to the house to talk with the tenants.  Female party being checked on was fine.  The sound of the gun being cocked most likely came from the TV as it was on very loud.  Officer determined there was no danger to anyone in the residence.
