Hornets edge Raiders 44-33 in regular season opener

0Frazee to travel to Perham on Thursday in HOL action

The Frazee Hornets opened their season with a 44-33 win over Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday night.
Later in the week, the Hornets fell to Pelican Rapids in their Heart O’ Lakes Conference opener by a score of 52-31 to fall to 1-1 on the season.
Frazee will return to action on Thursday night when they travel east on Highway 10 to take on the Perham Yellowjackets. Next week the Hornets will hit the road again when they travel to Hawley on Tuesday night and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Friday night.
Tuesday
Frazee’s defense held Lake Park-Audubon to just under 21 percent from the field as the Hornets defeated the Raiders by a score of 44-33 on Tuesday. The Hornets led by a score of 23-12 at halftime and shot nearly 35 percent from the field.
Frazee also went 6-20 from behind the arc and held a big advantage in second chance points with a 13-3 margin. They also dominated the ball down low as the Hornets held a 43-29 advantage in rebounding.
Kate Vigen had a big game from the field as she went 3-6 from behind the 3-point line and 6-9 from the field to finish with 16 points. Annika Reierson and Riyan Eckert each scored 7 points, while Hailey Selly scored 5 points, Jayden Sonnenberg scored 4, Madison Olson scored 3 and Harley Kropuenske rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Friday
Frazee dropped its HOL Conference opener on Friday night as the Hornets fell to Pelican Rapids by a score of 52-31.
After falling behind early in the game and trailing by a 26-9 margin at halftime, the Hornets matched the Vikings nearly point for point in the second half. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome their early deficit and fell by a score of 52-31.
The Hornets shot just 24.5 percent from the floor, but were 11-32 from inside the 3-point line. They Vikings held a 9-22 to a 1-17 advantage behind the 3-point line. The Hornets held a 16-13 advantage in points off of turnovers and were able to outscore the Vikings down low by a 22-16 margin.
Annika Reierson led the way offensively with 8 points, while Kaidence Mayfield scored 6, Kate Vigen scored 5, Jayden Sonnenberg and Harley Kropuenske each scored 4, while Brynn Larson and Riyan Eckert rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
