Frazee to host Barnesville in HOL Conference action

In one of their busiest weeks of the season, Frazee dropped three games, including a close 68-62 loss to Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal in non-conference action last Monday night. The Hornets also fell to Perham and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in Heart O’ Lakes Conference action on Friday and Saturday nights. 

This week the Hornets will host Battle Lake in non-conference action, before traveling to Hawley on Thursday night and hosting Barnesville on Saturday in a pair of conference games.

The Hornets are currently 3-13 overall and 1-7 in the conference.

Monday

Anything that could go wrong did go wrong for the Frazee Hornets early last Monday night. The Hornets trailed 16-4 in just the opening 7 minutes of the game. The Hornets clawed back into the game just as quickly as they found themselves down in the score with a big run to end the first half.

Unfortunately, the Hornets trailed 40-34 at halftime and were unable to take over the Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal Titans as they fell by a score of 68-62 last Monday night. The Hornets trailed by single digits for much of the second half thanks to a blistering 48 percent shooting from the field, but the Titans went on a run midway through the second half that proved to be too much for the Hornets to overcome. The Hornets also had 24 turnovers in the game, compared to just 10 for the Titans.

As a team, Frazee dominated NCE/UH in the paint as they held a 32-30 advantage in points in the paint and out rebounded the Titans by a 40-26 margin.

Nathan Johannsen led the way offensively as the senior scored 20 points off of just 8-14 shooting from the field. He also finished with a team high 7 rebounds.

Carter Sonnenberg chipped in with 8 points, while Asher Blaine scored 6 points and finished with 7 assists, Adam Vigen and Kale Ovsak each scored 5 points, George Flynn scored 4 points to go along with 7 rebounds and Dylan Selly rounded out the scoring with 4 points of his own. 

Mark Jaroszewski also reached double figures with 120 points on 4-6 shooting. He had 6 rebounds in the loss.

Friday

Frazee stuck right with Perham for much of the first and second half, before a late run late in the game gave the Yellowjackets the edge in a 68-35 win over the Hornets on Friday night.

Perham took a 34-18 lead at halftime thanks to a late run in the first half. Both teams matched baskets for much of the start of the second half, before Perham pulled away late in the game.

As a team, the Hornets were able to shoot nearly 38 percent from the field, while holding Perham to just 42 percent shooting. Unfortunately, the Hornets turned the ball over 23 times, which led to 27 points off of turnovers for the Yellowjackets. 

Nathan Johannsen led the way offensively for the Hornets as he went 5-9 from the field to finish with 12 points. He also led the team with 5 rebounds.

Adam Vigen chipped in with 7 points, while leading the team with 4 assists. George Flynn scored 4 points, while Dylan Selly, Zach Longfors and Ian Cottrell each scored 3 points, Kale Ovsak scored 2 points and Mark Jaroszewski rounded out the scoring with 1 point. 

Saturday

In a game that was played at a blistering pace in the first half, the Frazee Hornets fell to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton by a score of 83-48 on Saturday.

The two teams combined to score 76 points in the first half alone as the Rebels took a 46-30 lead at halftime. The game was single digits for much of the first half until a late run by the Rebels put them in front by double digits and set the tone for the final 18 minutes of action. 

Both teams shot over 40 percent from the field as the Hornets shot 40.8 percent and the Rebels finished by shooting 51.6 percent. DGF went 9-22 from behind the 3-point line and outscored the Hornets by a 24-4 margin in points off of turnovers. The Hornets did hold a 32-30 advantage in rebounding and had 9 assist on 20 made shots from the field. 

Johannsen recorded a double-double as the senior scored 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Asher Blaine scored 11 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, while Carter Sonnenberg scored 7 points to go along with 5 rebounds of his own.

Flynn scored 6 points, Cottrell scored 4, Vigen and Jaroszewski each scored 3 points and Selly rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
