The Frazee Lady Hornets snapped a five game losing streak on Monday night as the Hornets defeated Park Christian by a score of 58-47. The Hornets outscored the Falcons in both the first and second half as they went on to pick up their third win of the season.
The Hornets also came just 1 point short of defeating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference last week as they fell by a score of 44-43 to drop to 0-10 in conference action. The Hornets are 4-14 overall as they will turn their attention to a non-conference game against Verndale on Monday night, as well as a pair of conference games later this week. On Thursday night the Hornets will travel to Breckenridge, before hosting Barnesville in a boys-girls double-header on Saturday.
Monday
Frazee defeated Park Christian in non-conference action last Monday night by a score of 58-47.
The Hornets jumped out to a 33-26 lead at halftime and continued to find success on the offensive end of the court as Frazee shot nearly 43 percent from the field. The Hornets went 22-44 from inside the 3-point line and went 8-13 from the free throw line in the win. The Hornets defense also played well throughout the night as they forced 27 turnovers thanks to 22 steals and held a 39-32 advantage in rebounds.
Jayden Sonnenberg scored 20 points off of 7-14 shooting from the field, while Kate Vigen scored 11 points on just 5-7 shooting.
Hailey Selly and Riyan Eckert each scored 6 points, Annika Reierson scored 5 points, Kiley Karger scored 4 points, while Brynn Larson, Kaidence Mayfield and Harley Kropuenske rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.
Thursday
A single point—that was the difference between Frazee’s first HOL Conference win of the season and its 10th loss in conference action.
After holding Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to just 21 points in the opening 18 minutes of action and trailing just 21-17 at halftime, the Hornets roared back in the second half before falling by a final score of 44-43. The Hornets shot just 26.1 percent from the field, compared to 48.5 percent by the Rebels, but Frazee’s tough defensive pressure forced 20 DGF turnovers compared to just 7 for the Hornets. As a result, Frazee was able to hold commanding 16-6 advantage in post off of turnovers and an 8-0 advantage in transition points.
Frazee also did a good job of distributing the ball as they had 9 assists on 12 made shots from the floor in the loss.
Jayden Sonnenberg had a big night for the Hornets as she finished with 19 points, while Annika Reierson joined her in double figures with 11 points.
Hailey Selly and Kiley Karger each scored 4 points, while Madison Olson and Riyan Eckert scored 2 points and Harley Kropuenske rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
