St. Cloud Cathedral takes first place

The Frazee Fly Girls made a triumphant return to the state dance meet last Friday. Last year, the Fly Girls tied for third place at the state meet, but due to tiebreakers finished in fifth place. 

Turns are an important in showcasing athletic ability for dancers, as show by the Frazee Fly Girls.

This year’s team qualified for state in jazz by placing third at the Section 4A meet on Feb. 5. 

The Fly Girls were the second team to take to the Target Center floor on Friday morning, but they left a mark on judges as the team qualified for the finals later in the day. Other teams qualifying for the finals was Yellow Medicine East, St. Cloud Cathedral, Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd, Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cannon Falls. 

Frazee was the first team to take to the court in the Class A finals and once again performed their routine to the song “Arms.” The Fly Girls would eventually take fourth place in state jazz to improve on last year’s fifth place finish at state. 

The Class A state champion was St. Cloud Cathedral, while Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took second and Yellow Medicine East finished in third place. 

The Fly Girls also received a team academic award for their work in the classroom. 

In high kick, St. Cloud Cathedral finished as the state champion, while Yellow Medicine East took second place, while Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd took third.
