Frazee has a new stylist and she’s offering sizzling deals through the month of April. Erin Carpenter rented a chair at Hair Style Studio (109 North Lake Street in Frazee) and is offering specials for new clients. The 30-year-old also offers pedicures and manicures, and kept the deals coming. “I’m offering a pedi with gel polish for $30 to all my clients and a mani with gel polish for $20,” she said.
The call is out for search parties in Vergas on Saturday, April 8 for the second annual Maple Leaf Medallion hunt. The Maple Syrup Festival starts at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, at which time the hunt for the maple leaf medallion begins. The medallion, which is made of three copper leaves welded together, will be hidden on public property. “It can be anywhere in the city, but it won’t be in a dangerous spot, like in a tree,” said Rodger Palmer, one of the event organizers. The finder of the medallion should turn it in at the Vergas Event Center to receive a gift basket filled with prizes, maple syrup and a trophy. Palmer released the first two clues, noting the medallion will not be hidden until the wee hours the morning of the event.
The ducks are back—as lakes open up this week, the ducks are arriving in flocks. pictured in the newspaper was a hooded merganser, which are short-distance migrants which winter in the United States in regions where winter temperatures allow for ice-free conditions on ponds, lakes and rivers.

The region’s severe winter weather will be the cause of heavy testing of local lakes. Although there are some lakes that are generally tested for winter kill on a yearly basis, the hard winter has lengthened that list considerably, said Department of Natural Resources’ fisheries representative Gary Huberty. Lakes that will tested in Bekcer County include: Beseau, Boyer, Canary, Little Cormorant, Little Detroit, Height O’ Land, East LaBelle, Marshall, Muskrat, Rock, Sand, Shell, Tamarac, Town, Waboose and Wolf Lake. Arlin Schalekamp, area fisheries manager for the Otter Tail County area, said that seven lakes throughout that area have been monitored recently, although none of them are in this immediate area. The DNR has been working on quite a bit of monitoring already, and as soon as the ice is gone, they will be going into these lakes with nets to do further testing.
Changes to initiate a pay equity system in Frazee are estimated to cost between $6,687-$9,034 over a one- to two-year period. This announcement comes on the heels of the March 10 notation that the city is in its worst financial situation in three years. During a special city council meeting Monday night, options were discussed with the council by consultant Dorothy Person to bring the city wages up to state specifications for pay equity.

The Frazee Senior High School Chorus will present their Spring Operetta, “The Mikado,” April 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. Ticket prices have been changed from those previously announced in the Forum and the school newspaper. Tickets are $1.75 for adults and $1.25 for students for reserved seats in the first five rows of chairs. Other chair seats are $1.50 for adults and $1.00 for students. Bleacher seats are $1.00 fro adults and 75c for students. Children 6 years and under will be admitted free.
The Frazee Fire Department under the direction of Jarrod Christen, chief, has just completed the fifth course in Firemanship Training as provided by the Field Service Unit of the Vocational Technical Division, State Department of Education. This course consists of a minimum of 12 hours of instruction and is presented with the cooperation of the local school officials.
The Frazee-Vergas School appointed Eldon Bergman as head basketball coach for the 1972-73 season, at their regular meeting Tuesday night. Dennis Bellefuille was named “B” team basketball coach, and LeRoy Hausmann, 9th grade coach.
The Heart O’Lakes Auxiliary will hold their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 11th at 8 p.m. Bring one of more items for the Silent Auction, also any Betty Crocker coupons to be given to the World War I Auxiliary in Detroit Lakes for a wheel chair for Camp Courage.
