Hornets sweep Nuggets in HOL Conference action

The Frazee Hornets swept a doubleheader against the Hawley Nuggets in a pair of wild and high scoring games on Thursday. The Hornets defeated the Nuggets by scores of 8-5 and 13-10.
In addition to their Heart ‘O Lakes Conference games against Hawley, the Hornets fell to Otter Tail Central in non-conference action by a score of 5-0 last week.
This week the Hornets will travel to Perham for a doubleheader on Tuesday, before hitting the road for a non-conference game against Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Thursday. On Friday the road trip will continue as the Hornets will travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for a doubleheader.
Monday
Otter Tail Central scored 3 runs on a pair of bases loaded hits in the bottom of the first inning as the Bulldogs came away with a 5-0 win over Frazee on Monday night.
OTC added single runs in the third and fourth inning to add to their lead in Monday’s non-conference game in Henning. While the Hornets didn’t score in the game they had several chances to get a runner across the plate as Zach Longfors led off the second inning with a double and added a two out double in the top of the fourth inning. He was stranded at second base on both occasions.
Wiley Bachmann took the loss on the mound as he gave up 8 hits and 5 earned runs over 4 innings. He also struck out 7 hitters. Mark Jaroszewski pitched the final 2 innings of the game and gave up just 3 hits and struck out 3 hitters.
Longfors led the way offensively as he hit a pair of doubles in the loss.

Thursday
Frazee swept a doubleheader against Hawley on Thursday night as the Hornets outscored the Nuggets by a 21-15 margin.
The Hornets opened the day with an 8-5 win after a big 3-run first inning set the tone for the game.
Zach Longfors was hit to lead off the bottom of the first inning, before Scott Seim earned a one out walk. Mark Jaroszewski followed with an RBI single, before Kale Osvak followed with an RBI single of his own to make the game 2-0 in favor of Frazee. A Gage Post fielder’s choice brought Jaroszewski around to score to make the game 3-0.
The Hornets added another run in the third inning on a two out RBI single by Caden Frank to make the score 4-0.
Frazee added 2 more runs in the fourth inning, as well as single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to come away with the 8-5 win. The Nuggets cut the lead to 7-4 in the top of the sixth inning with a big 4-run top of the sixth inning, but Frazee answered the call and came away with the win.
The Hornets outhit the Nuggets by a margin of 14-11 with Derek Zitzow having a big game from the plate with 3 hits and an RBI. Jaroszewski also had a multi-hit game as he went 2-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs.
Scott Seim picked up the win on the mound as he struck out 14 hitters over 5 2/3 innings, while giving up 9 hits.
In the second game of the night, Frazee and Hawley combined for 23 runs, 31 hits and 10 errors as the Hornets outlasted the Nuggets by a score of 13-10.
The big difference in the game was in the second inning when the Hornets scored 7 runs to take an 8-1 lead. After Wiley Bachmann hit an RBI single to give the lead back to the Hornets, Seim hit a 3-run home run to make the game 5-1 in favor of Frazee.
Frank followed with a 2-run, two out single and Max Rue followed with an RBI single to give the Hornets an 8-1 lead. They added another run in the third inning on a bases loaded walk and a pair of runs in the fifth inning on a 2-run single by Frank to make the score 11-3.
Hawley made a game of it late as they cut the Hornets’ lead to 11-8 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Frazee scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh inning to come away with the win.
Rue, Osvak and Seim all had 3 hits in the win, while Longfors, Jaroszewski and Frank came away with 2 hits apiece.
Longfors secured the win on the mound as he pitched 6 innings and gave up 11 hits and 5 earned runs.
