Darrell Donald Holmer – known to all as “Butch” was born November 26th, 1944 in Detroit Lakes, MN to parents Elmer and Ada (Sedberg). Butch grew up in the Ponsford area with his siblings Walt, Jack and Barb.

In 1961, while attending his senior year in Frazee, Butch met his future bride, Gladys. They married February 1st, 1964 and settled first in Minneapolis. Butch and Gladys welcomed three children, Jeff, Todd and Janelle and the kids have many fond memories of time spent with Butch in the barn, boat and deer stand.

An avid outdoorsman from a young age, Butch spent much of his life hunting, fishing and farming.  Butch worked as a union carpenter for many years until returning to Frazee, MN to start a dairy farm at Gladys’ family homestead and enjoyed being his own boss (second to his beloved wife).

Butch was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He adored his grandkids. He led his family with gentle humility, steadfast love and a dash of mischief. Time with Butch was always an adventure.

After retiring, Butch could be found outside always keeping busy. Whether hunting, riding the four-wheeler, gopher trapping, fishing or shooting his bow, Butch remained passionate about the outdoors.

Butch was survived by his adoring wife: Gladys (Illg), children Jeff (Robin) Holmer, Todd (Rana) Holmer and Janelle (Steve) Girtz; Grandchildren: Cory (Lana), Madison (Ben), Brody, McCoy, Heidi, Holly (Kurt), Cole (Brooke) and McKenzie; great-grandchildren: Adelynne, Oliver and Caleb; and many other extended family and friends.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ada; siblings Walt, Jack and Barb; and grandson Jesse.
