DuWayne “Duke” James Turnbull, age 83, of Frazee, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Perham Living Nursing Home in Perham, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, with a time of gathering an hour prior.

A Family & Friends Gathering will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the Turnbull residence, 403 S. Lake St., Frazee.

Duke, born on May 24, 1940, in Perham, MN, brought double the trouble to the Turnbull family. Growing up by the Frazee River, he shared his childhood mischief with his twin, David.

Love found Duke in the form of Susan Benson. Their October 19, 1963, wedding was a sweet beginning. Their trio of rambunctious kids-Abby, Rita, and Myles-filled their home with laughter and love, creating an unforgettable upbringing.

The Navy molded Duke, then he returned, working at Daggetts, then Snappies and retiring with the MN State. Outdoors was his playground-hunting, fishing, camping-the true sportsman! His infectious smile, hearty laugh, and playful jokes warmed hearts.

Oh, his sweet tooth! Desserts vanished around him.

But amidst all, his heart was held by Susie. Her passing in 2020 left a quiet ache, a testament to their profound love. Duke’s evenings were adorned with Westerns, and his dining room offered the perfect perch for bird-watching and contemplation.

With a legacy that lives on, Duke’s story continues through his loving children: Abby (Jim), Rita (Terry), and Myles (Valerie). His love grew with 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a twinkling great-great-grandson named Colt.

As Duke rejoined his beloved Susie, he found comfort with parents Charles and Bertha, brothers Robert and David, and sister Donna. Autumn and Chloe, precious great-granddaughters, welcomed him too. Duke’s circle of love encompassed sisters-in-law Betty, Irma, and JoAnne, along with cherished family and friends.

Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
