Frederick Henry Tate, Jr. (Hank) was born February 25, 1943 at Winona Co. General Hospital, Winona, MN.  He passed away at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home, Menahga, MN on March 16, at 80 years, 23 days.  His parents were Frederick Henry Tate,  Sr. and Charlotte Dorthea (Cassel) Tate.  He grew up on a dairy farm.  They still used horses when he was a baby

He went to Hillsdale District 97, rural Lewiston, then attended Lewiston High School through his junior year. The family then moved to Frazee, MN in 1959.  He graduated from Frazee High School in 1960.

He married Sharon A. Beck in the summer of 1960.  They lived in Frazee.  Two children were born to this union, Kim Marie and Donald Frederick.  Hank was a truck driver all of his working life.  He did his own mechanics on his trucks.  He married Sharon Karjala Sorenson in May of 1989.  They lived in rural Frazee and owned the Palace Café in Frazee.  They then moved to the Menahga area where they celebrated 25 years of marriage.  

Hank liked to hunt and fish in his spare time.  He was baptized in 1951.  He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  He was also a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church (Evergreen).  He was a faithful member in his later years, until his Parkinson’s wouldn’t let him drive there.  The pastors then came to see him at the Nursing Home, which he enjoyed their visits receiving Holy communion.

Hank leaves to honor his passing, his daughter Kim (James Kruger) Tate and her children Shane Tate, Kelly (Candice) Milleto, Tracy (Luke) Lundgren, his son Donnie (Tammy) and their children Dustin (Angela), Danika (Scott) Jay and 9 great grandchildren.  Two step daughters, Robin (Lee) Hendrickson and Charilyn Knosalla and their families.  His brother Charles (Vickie) of Frazee and his sisters Marie (Marvin) Parvi of Kansas, Katherine (Dennis) Huwe of Menahga.  Brother in law Dennis Hagen of Park Rapids.  Many nephews and nieces, a host of cousins and friends.

Hank is preceded in death by his wife Sharon, 7 years ago, his parents Fred and Charlotte, his sister Lucinda C. Houtari Hagen.

Hank has spent his last years at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.  We are very thankful for the care he was given. 

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rural Frazee, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, beside his wife and parents. 

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Evergreen Church, Frazee, MN.
