George William Altstadt (GWA), age 91, left this world to be with our Lord on August 28, 2025, in Perham, MN.
George Altstadt was born to Ambrose and Marge Altstadt April 13, 1934, in Perham, MN. After School, George worked at the Perham Coop Creamery for 43 years from 1953 to 1996. He retired in 1996. He married the love of his life, Ardith (Ardie) McGowan on December 28, 1955, at St. Joe Catholic Church near Dent, MN. Ardith and George were married just shy of 70 years.
Ardith and George had four children, Deb, Randy, Jim and Wanda. George loved to be with his family.
He spent much time giving rides on his John Deere tractor and his scooter with his grandkids and great grandkids. George loved to hunt and fish whenever he could. The walleyes are now safe in Ottertail Lake, that’s for sure. George could strike up a conversation with anybody and loved to “shoot the bull” with anyone who would listen. There has never been a better example of a hardworking man, good father, faithful husband, or a more caring friend. We will surely miss the crazy stories of the farm dogs from your milk truck days, or the shenanigans you pulled in your younger years.
Our Dad was an inspiration to us all. He had some sayings and lots of stories that will be passed down for many years to come. He was a friend to many, and blessed all those who knew him. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever. We miss you already Dad!
George is survived by his wife, his four children, Debora (Jeff) Blickenstaff, Randy (Janel) Altstadt, James (Ashley) Altstadt, and Wanda Kupferschmid; sister, Dianne Rohde Szarke of Perham; brother, Roger (Sue) Altstadt also of Perham; and lots of friends. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; many sisters and brothers-in-law; and three grandsons.
