0Janice Ann (Sonnenberg) Poss, 83 passed away peacefully at Pelican Landing in Detroit Lakes, MN on May 19, 2022. Janice was born on July 30, 1938, to Theodore and Alvina (Hoffman) Sonnenberg in Dora Township, MN.
Growing up Janice spent her time on the family farm in Hobart Township with her five brothers. She was baptized on August 28,1938 at St. Paul Lutheran church.
Janice met Cecil and the two married on December 3, 1955. Janice and Cecil were dairy farmers while raising their two children Jerry and LaVonne. They sold their dairy farm in 1973 and moved to Lake Lizzie where they developed lake property and grain farmed on the side.
Janice was well known as the cookie lady; she would always have cookies or cake crumbles on hand. She also would make extravagant cakes and floral arrangements for many weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries.
Janice and Cecil loved to travel and often went up to Canada to fish and spent most of their winters in Texas. They also loved to play cards and would find any excuse to go dancing together.
Janice was creative and would make things for her grandchildren all the time, she would sew and make quilts, and always knew how to make a garden grow. She loved and was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all those who were touched by her sweet spirit.
Janice is survived by her grandchildren Shane (Sheila) Poss, Jordan Poss, Taji Poss, Mya (Kris) Stach, Andrea (Nick) Marts, Bryan (Danielle) Houts, Lyndsey Hays, Lacey (Jordon) Foss, Gary (Katie) Richards, and Shelby Richards. 20 great grandchildren. Her brothers Raymond (Diane) Sonnenberg, and Rick (Shelby) Sonnenberg. Son in laws Mark (Angie) Richards and Gene (Brenda) Houts.
She is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Poss, children Jerry (Diane) Poss, and LaVonne Richards. Parents Theodore & Alvina Sonnenberg, and brothers Warren Sonnenberg, Loren Sonnenberg, and Harvey Sonnenberg.
Services for Janice will be on Friday, May 27,2022 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Vergas, MN at 11 am with a visitation one hour prior. Services provided by Furey Funeral Home.
