0Perry Dale Grundyson, age 58, died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 12, 2024, at Perham Living-Transitions (rehab) after a courageous battle with cancer.
Perry was born on August 30, 1966, in Fosston, Minnesota, to Melford and Delores (Rud) Grundyson. He graduated from McIntosh-Winger Public School in 1985. After high school, Perry briefly attended school in Bemidji, MN. Perry spent many years living in McIntosh, working various jobs. He also was an extra pair of hands assisting his father with the care for his mother as she battled MS.
Perry met Renee Sonnenberg on April 18, 2013, on a dating app. After some time, Perry moved to Vergas to be with Renee. They lived in Vergas until Perry became ill, at which time, he moved to the Perham Living Center. The two were married on July 27, 2024, in Perham, Minnesota. While living in Vergas, Perry worked at the Vergas 66 Gas & Convenience Store.
Perry was an avid bowler and was on bowling leagues in Crookston, Bagley, and Detroit Lakes with his friends. He also enjoyed watching football. His favorite team was the Detroit Lions. Perry also enjoyed going to county fairs, demolition derbies, watching professional wrestling and even attended a few live events.
Perry is survived by his wife, Renee; sister, Melanie (Mark) Olinger; his father, Melford Grundyson; niece, Melissa (Jon) Skaalerud; great niece, Scarlett Skaalerud and great nephew, Stellan Skaalerud; mother-in-law, Irma Sonnenberg; brothers-in-laws: Bucky (Julie) Sonnenberg and Brandon (Kayla) Sonnenberg; niece, Braylen Sonnenberg and nephew, Caleb Sonnenberg; uncle, Erwin Rud; cousins and friends.
Perry was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Grundyson; his grandparents: Edwin & Rebecca Rud and Olaf & Amalia Grundyson; uncle, Orvin Grundyson; aunts: Adeline Grundyson and Harriet Hudrlik; and father-in-law, Harvey Sonnenberg.
Celebration of Perry’s life will be held on September 21, 2024, at the United Methodist Church, 200 West Main Street, Vergas, Minnesota, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Perry’s family would appreciate donations be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo, ND.
