During the monthly city council meeting December 13, Vergas City Clerk Julie Lammers reported the city water was checked as part of the state’s wellhead protection plan. “They wanted to retest because the water showed it was the same or better then distilled water you buy, “ she said, noting she was told it may be the “best water in the state of Minnesota.”
The Vergas Liquor Store went back into the black for November, and council members are hoping the trend continues. The store spent $33,670 on product and operation of the store and had an income of $34,339, which resulted in a $669 profit.

Dick Palan of Eagle Lake considers himself lucky. He slid onto a Burlington Northern- Santa Fe train at about 10 a.m. Monday and escaped with no injuries. He was driving his ’93 Buick sedan across the tracks just east of Frazee when the collision occurred. Palan said the accident happened so fast, he applied the brakes but slid towards the train on the icy gravel road. The train nicked his car, tearing off the front bumper and smashing the headlights. Thankfully the car was not drug by the train.
Daggett Truck Line, Frazee, was busy this Christmas distributing $26,000 in Frazee Bucks to its employees as a partial refund to workers for the rebate the company received from Workmen’s Compensation through State Fund Mutual Insurance Co. The rebate is given to Daggett for low injuries and a portion is passed on to the employees.
