Notes from the Chief

Notes from the Farm…I guess I was wrong last week, talking about the cattle finding new ways to die. An old-time farmer talked to me at the game last week and said sheep are way worse. Well, I can’t disagree. We have had hundreds, maybe thousands of cattle on the farm the last 50 years since I’ve been around.

The death toll on the cattle is 2-4 percent? Maybe higher or lower year-to-year. Compare that to the number of sheep we have had on the farm for as long as I can remember. I got one bottle lamb from our neighbor ol’ Dewayne Schaefer probably 40 years ago. The death rate on the sheep on our farm is 100 percent, so I can say for sure that sheep are worse than cattle.

Have a nice week!
