To the Editor,

Dear Donald Trump,

I know you have a hard job. I feel for you. I understand the illegal immigration issue is a problem. We all saw the video clips of hordes of people just walking across the border illegally, and it was horrific. I am glad you are addressing it.

Could you at least consider this? Most of the people immigrating are not bad people. They are just seeking a better life for themselves and their families. It’s what all of our ancestors did.

Think of how horrible it must be where they came from—in order to be risking the task of leaving everything, uprooting their families, taking toddlers and pregnant women along on a horrific and dangerous trip. I’m really sorry it’s not better where they live. If things were better there, probably they wouldn’t be leaving in the first place. Is it at all possible for the US or private citizens with lots of money to donate could help out that cause? Create safe and decent communities where they already live? They would probably stay home in the first place if so. I’m sure there are a few bad folks, just like we have here, but the majority of them are likely decent people full of hope, looking for something better.

I’m sure you saw what Spain is doing. Enacting a regularization for the undocumented immigrants already in their country. Is it at all possible to do something similar? The individual stories of ICE tactics are so heartbreaking—how they are ripping families apart, taking young children from their parents, or shoving parents to the ground and shackling them in front of their children. I’ve read of cases where they take people on their way to or from their scheduled appointments at the immigration office—trying to go through the legal process. Or taking Native Americans? There doesn’t seem to be a good reason for them to be so brutal most of the time.

I know it’s important for you that people like you. Believe me, if you could so something like Spain has, so many people would like you. So, do this or something similar, deal with current illegal crossings, and please ease on the brutal ICE tactics. I just bet the Nobel people, as well as lots of people here that currently aren’t fans of yours, would look kindly on that! Please think about this.
