Notes from the Chief
Notes from New York…I see I did not talk much about the Toto and Journey concert last week. It was spectacular is all I can say! Lots of energy and many good tunes from growing up in the 80’s.
One teensy bit of disappointment that we discovered while at the show that started Thursday morning. The DA and I went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. It was toward the end of the breakfast crowd so not many people were in the restaurant. There was one gentleman sitting at the table next to us who was enjoying some French toast. He was on the phone for a bit and just minding his own business.
Now, being the somewhat friendly people we are, it is sometimes customary to say hello to strangers, especially since we were tourists in town, maybe to find out what brings them to town. I was a split second from saying hello, where are you from, and are you in town for the concert tonight. I was a good lad and just left the fellow to mind his own business. We had a delicious breakfast and went about our day.
So, we get to the concert and Toto starts playing. The DA tells me that that is the guy who was next to us when we were having breakfast. I looked around and didn’t recognize anyone next to us. I ask where and she points to the stage. Well, I’ll be…. That fellow having breakfast was one of the band members for TOTO!
Cripes almighty this guy has been all over the music industry and I missed an opportunity to have a small visit. Greg Phillinganes has worked with Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, The Bee Gees, Aretha Franklin, Richard Marz, Paul McCArtney, Stevie Nick and Michael Jackson. This guy is 67 years old and still rockin’! The moral of the story I learned is to never waste a moment to be polite and say hello to a stranger. You never know what you may miss. More to come from New York next week.
