Notes from the Chief
Notes from the Chief…Just a friendly reminder to please keep up on your lawn maintenance. The city crew will be mowing some of the properties that received warning letters if they are not mowed.
This is a last resort for the city as it can be an extra cost to the property owner and also the city crew isn’t totally excited about mowing a strange yard as we have no idea what could be laying in the tall grass. We do not want to damage our equipment more than normal wear and tear for a job that we shouldn’t have to be doing anyway.
Notes from the Farm…We had a few more calves this week, 72 is the magic number. We haven’t moved anymore to pasture and the ones at home are in the dry lot getting hay and silage for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Keeping them on hay and silage the last week or so is a way to let the pastures at the farm gain an advantage. We will be moving them soon and they will have all the fresh grass they can eat.
We also started cutting hay last Wednesday with about 40-acres on the ground. Of course since we have hay down, it decided to rain and it may rain all weekend even though the prior forecast looked like it was pretty dry. I am not sure how much hay we will put up this year as we have a few hundred bales left over. Not having to make as much hay will allow us to use more for pasture.
I have one little snippet that I picked up at the bike rodeo. I was talking with parents about riding bicycles on the right side of the road and pedestrians walk against traffic. One mother said, “You walk against traffic so you can see who hits you!”
Have a nice week!
