If hard work paid off, farmers would be millionaires

0I don’t know about you, but I sure didn’t wake up this morning thinking, you know what would make today great? “More political chaos.” And yet, here we are watching the people with the most power make decisions that somehow only seem to benefit the ones who already have everything, while the rest of us are left wondering if we can even afford a carton of eggs this week.
I’m not a politician. I’m not an expert. I’m literally just a girl who cares and I think it’s unfair that so many people have to struggle while the ones at the tippy top keep getting richer. The people running this country should be working for us, not against us. But instead, billionaires get tax breaks, corporations find loopholes, and the people who actually keep this country running, like farmers, get left behind.
Dear Farmers,
Thank you for being the literal backbone of this country. Thank you for waking up before the sun, for working in weather that makes my bones hurt just thinking about it. I’ve never had to bottle-feed a newborn calf at 3 a.m., on a winter night with a real feel of -28°, but I know plenty of you have. Thank you for the 16-hour days, the missed weekends, and the food on our tables.
I’m sorry that instead of stability, you get rising costs, government-entered tape, and market instability. I’m sorry that while you’re out here working endlessly to feed the country, politicians make it even harder for you to survive. And if you haven’t heard what the future holds:
Again, I’m not an expert but after some research on Bing and spending over an hour reading chapter 10 of the Project 2025 PDF – when Project 2025 moves forward, here’s what some of it means for farmers:
• Project 2025 would say goodbye to critical safety nets. The Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs—which protect farmers from devastating price drops would be eliminated. That means if markets crash, you’re on your own.
• Crop Insurance? If you receive crop insurance payments, you’d no longer be eligible for ARC or PLC in the same year.
• No more expansion for small farms. – They’re cutting Farm Service Agency (FSA) loans, making it harder for family farms to get funding to grow or stay in operation. Meanwhile, corporate agriculture will continue swallowing up independent farms—because that’s exactly what happens when smaller producers lose access to credit.
• Good luck selling your crops. – They’re gutting the Market Access Program (MAP) and Foreign Market Development Program (FMDP). These programs help American farmers compete globally. Less market access means less demand, lower prices, and more financial strain on already struggling farms.
From my understanding, small farms get crushed, corporate agriculture wins, and rural communities suffer.
Your Senators and House Representatives are elected to represent you and your interests. Their main job is to make, change, and vote on laws that impact everything from taxes and healthcare to farming and education. They decide how government money is spent and they check the president’s power. (something we should all also be paying attention to cause checks and balances, am I right? )
Politicians work for you. If they’re voting against your future or your neighbors future in any way, shape, or form, they need to hear from you. History proves that when people speak up, change happens. Call them. Demand better. And if they still won’t listen?
Collective action, general strikes, and mass protests have always made headlines.
It starts with a call and your voice.
