So many times in life I’ve had a really good idea. I’ve wanted to start something new, or try this or that out. Or I come up with a perfect plan, and get to work to make it happen. Maybe it’s age or wisdom, or both as they can go hand-in-hand, but I find I’m beginning to slow down a little more, pray, and really ask the question: Is this really what God is desiring right now?

Proverbs 16:9 says, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

When a person decides to follow Jesus, a change of ownership happens.

First Corinthians 6:19b-20 says, “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.”

The truth of this is profound.

Jesus not only paid to take my sins; but he purchased me as his own. That means He has authority to call the shots of my life.

In addition, The Bible also calls us sheep. Sheep, on their own, are not that bright. One sheep will literally follow another one off of a cliff. Sheep need a shepherd to lead, feed, and guide them. Oh, how we need one as well.

The good news is Jesus is the good shepherd. His sheep listen to His voice and follow Him.  (John 10)

A popular country song came out some time ago saying, “Jesus, take the wheel.”

While I’m glad Jesus is there for me in my dire and difficult times; I’m so very glad I can be led by Him, my good Shepherd, in everyday life and planning and not only in an emergency.

Instead of waiting until you’ve made your own plans, why not have a chat with Him today about your plans for 2023.

Give Him permission to drive. You’ll be happier, and chances are good you’ll fall over less cliffs.
