Notes from the Chief

Notes from the Chief… I wonder who is in charge of the weather forecasting these days. Last Wednesday, we had a phenomenon come through that I have never heard of.

A “snow squall?” Apparently, a snow squall is a short intense burst of heavy snow accompanied by strong, gusty winds. I guess that makes sense for the duration of the different weather issues that day. Last week, I commented about summer air in your tires and needing to add winter air. This is not totally a joke like blinker fluid is. When the air temperature decreases, tire pressure can change as much as 1 psi per 10 degrees of weather. If your tires are at 35 pounds of air pressure, temps in the teens or colder will lower the air pressure in your tires, thus needing to add some winter air to get them back up to 35 psi. No blowing smoke here, as I heard this from a real live mechanic.

Not a whole lot else to talk about this week other than I ran into a nice couple and their family at the gas station on Thursday evening. I see them about 1-2 times a year as they are passing through town on their way to the metropolis of Wolf Lake. Always nice to visit with them.

11:08 p.m. Complaint from a male that his wife keeps contacting him even though she put an order for protection on him barring him from having contact. Officer assured male that he was not breaking the law with her contacting him, but if he replied, he would be in trouble. Officer suggested a restraining order against the female to prevent her from contacting him.

Side note…An HRO, OFP and DANCO are court orders and are only a one-way street where the protected party can contact the respondent. Any contact direct, indirect or third party contact by the respondent could result in charges. It does not seem fair, but that is the way the law is written.
