Notes from the Chief

Notes from the Chief…By the time you read this, the Minnesota Youth Deer Hunt will be a day or two away. Thursday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 19 are the dates this year, funny how they seem to fall on MEA every year.

We had our fall class for youth firearms safety a couple weeks ago so hopefully those newly certified kids will be able to hunt. I will remind you about the four major rules of firearm safety: 1. Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.  2. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.  Know your target and what is beyond.  4. Keep your finger off the trigger until it is safe to shoot.

We have all heard these rules over and over, but I will also remind you of the single most important hunting/outdoor rule: LET SOMEONE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHEN TO EXPECT YOU TO RETURN!

It seems every year there is a lost hunter or two in the area, so please make an effort to keep your hunting partners and loved ones apprised of your plans.

Have a safe hunting season!
